Desert Oasis Hiking- Wadi Al Qelt

All nature and adventure lovers out there - Wadi Qelt in the Judean desert is calling out for you. Book with Wild-Trails for a spectacular experience.

The Adventure:

Wadi Al Qelt is one of the most beautiful canyons the Israeli desert has to offer. This stream (which is, by some researchers, a geological border crossing between the Samarian desert and the Judean desert) is a huge and magnificent oasis that really gets the meaning of a ‘’Desert Jungle’’.
The length of the stream is about 30 Kilometers (18.6 miles for you Americans) and starts in the Jerusalem neighborhood ‘’Neve Ya’akov’’, a neighborhood that sits on top of the Drainage Divide, overlooking the breathtaking vista of the desert.
Prat stream, being an oasis, has always been and still is a place for both settlers and nomads alike.

Near the stream, along with its banks, lies many pieces of evidence telling the stories of long-gone civilizations, as well as the signs for the new settlers. ‘’Kubur Bnei Israel’’, recognized by some researchers as the true tomb of Rachel, the hanging monasteries built on top of its cliffs, the houses and herds of the Bedouin shepherds, the Jewish settlements, the ancient city of Jericho and the many ruins of the ancient settlements, all of these being examples of the lifeline which is Prat stream.
Prat steam originates from three main fountains: Ein Prat, Ein Mabua, and Ein Kelt.

This special trip to Wadi Qelt is an enchanting hike into the heart of a magnificent oasis. This special trip will be guided by Wild-Trails Adventure leader which specializes in this field.  Even if you’ve been to the stream and its fountains before, this is your chance to enjoy a great quality, professional guided tour.

Trail Description:

We will pick you from your hotel (Jerusalem, Tel Aviv or North Dead Sea) or we will meet at the entrance to the National Park.

Once we are in we’ll first swim in the natural pool located in the middle of the canyon, drink some hot desert style drinks to warm up and get ready for the hike.

After stretching our bones, we’ll go on a real hike, cross the oasis, pass between the rocks and walk under amazing cliffs which are used by monks to live far away from the civilization.

To finish our desert hiking we need to survive the crossing of the longest ‘’Jungle’’ in the Israeli desert and climb a short hill.
